Queensland University of Technology's (QUT) first visual arts bursary, aimed at helping emerging painters, was recently launched at a small ceremony.
The Hild Chenhall Memorial Scholarship in Visual Arts is the legacy of late Sunshine Coast painter Hilde Chenhall.

QUT's Creative Industries executive dean Rod Wissler said the bursary would greatly benefit a visual arts student needing a hand to launch their career.
"This is a milestone for us given it is the first bursary for visual artists," he said.
"We are very happy to be in receipt of the scholarship and know that it will be of great of assistance to one of our painting students."
One of the Trustees of the fund, Cooroy solicitor Paul Bone said it was Mrs Chenhall's wish that the money would be of particular benefit to painters.
"She was an artist for many years and wanted to be able to help other painters, in particular," Mr Bone said.
"This in itself is an example that philanthropists can make a great difference to art students and the creative industries for a small amount of money."
