26th April 2017

Coinciding with the United Nations Global Road Safety Week and Australia’s Yellow Ribbon National Road Safety Week, QUT’s Centre for Accident Research & Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q) is launching a Queensland-wide initiative “Watch your Pace when Sharing Space” on Friday May 12, 2017.

The CARRS-Q campaign aims to educate people about the vulnerability of pedestrians and cyclists involved in collisions with cars at relatively low speeds.

In Queensland’s urban areas a shift in lifestyles means different road users are more likely to be sharing space, and as such conflicts between vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians and vehicles are becoming more common.

The Samford event will provide the opportunity to remind the community about sharing the road.  There will also be face painting, a sausage sizzle and cupcakes, together with interactive displays by RACQ, Kidsafe, Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Police.

WHAT: Free community road safety event

WHEN: Friday May 12 between 2-5pm

WHERE: John Scott Park, Station Rd, Samford Village

WHO: The event is being supported by CARRS-Q, Kidsafe, RACQ, Councillor Darren Grimwade, local MP Mark Furner and Department of Transport and Main Roads deputy director-general Mike Stapleton.
