Former Queensland parliamentary Speaker QUT Adjunct Associate Professor John Mickel says the new Queensland electoral boundaries announced today are “fair and ferocious”.

He said:

  • Labor must win middle South-East Queensland to stay in the game.
  • Ministers Steven Miles and Michael de Brenni at risk and Minister Mark Bailey’s seat made more marginal
  • Electorate name and boundary changes mean few sitting members are left unscathed
  • Labor needs to win on the outer northern Gold Coast to secure majority government
  • LNP under One Nation and Katter Party pressure in Far North Queensland
  •  Former Labor members  in Far North Queensland and problem in Bundaberg pose a threat to regional Queensland dominance
