CIQ consistent with our 2020 mission: Serving the Remote and Disadvantaged
A CIQ team revisited remote Maryvale Primary School, a one teacher school near Warwick, to deliver a second workshop for the fourteen students. After the first visit in early 2020, CIQ made a commitment to support the school in three ways: workshop visits every 6 weeks, volunteer teachers providing fortnightly ZOOM tutorials from China, and facilitating the enrolment of four students in the Charters Towers Distance Education Chinese program.
CIQ Director, Antoine Barnaart said, ‘It was motivating to be so well supported by team members Lisha Song, Mia Gao and Vita Li. We all agreed every kilometre of the 250 km return trip is well worthwhile. Inspiration flows both ways when we get to interact with this small but wonderful group of students. They are so enthusiastic and asked so many interesting questions!’
Principal, Joanne Wernecke confirmed, ‘My students are so excited to begin the ZOOM sessions, from China, starting next week. They enjoy all the cultural activities provided by CIQ’.
