Are you a young scientist of the future who’s passionate about improving our world (or the parent of one)? Statewide applications are now open for the 2017 QUT Vice-Chancellor’s STEM Camp for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The annual camp brings together 160 of Queensland's brightest Year 11 students for a free, five-day experience in the September school holidays (September 24-29).Students who successfully apply will work with QUT researchers and undergraduate students in real-world STEM research projects.Highlights from last year’s camp can be seen in the video below.
QUT’s STEM Teacher-in-Residence Matthew Brooks said now, more than even, the world needed to encourage the talents of young people with a passion for STEM.“The curiosity and imagination that make a great scientist starts in childhood and really gathers momentum through the teenage years,” he said.“Our high school students of today have the opportunity to help shape our world and rise to the challenges relating to our growing population, surging technology and changing climate.“The QUT Vice-Chancellor’s STEM Camp gives them a chance to do team-based practical research on some of these challenges with the help of our researchers and students.”The camp will be held at QUT’s Gardens Point campus in the Brisbane CBD, which is home to world-class STEM facilities including the Science and Engineering Centre and The Cube.Applicants must be current Queensland Year 11 students (aged 15 to 17) and have at least two VHAs in a science, mathematics B or C, engineering technology or computer science.Students in Brisbane and across regional Queensland are welcome to apply. QUT will fund transport and boarding accommodation for regional students who are selected for the camp. For more details email email@example.com or read the application eligibility requirements here and access the online application form here.
