Why study interactive and graphic design at QUT?
As a QUT design student, you'll be part of a vibrant, multidisciplinary school with excellent connections to the real world of design professions. Our interactive and graphic design graduates excel in the real world, and are in high demand across a range of creative and commercial industries, including advertising, education, computer games, film and TV production and cultural institutions. If you are committed and passionate about design, you will thrive in our engaging and fulfilling design courses.
Interactive and graphic designers play a pivotal role in shaping the look and feel of visual media, and the ways people experience them. Our courses prepare you to work as a visual communication designer across traditional and new interactive media forms in a wide range of practices, from creative advertising to interaction design, leading projects from the conceptual stages to production and publication.
Interactive and graphic design are part of a suite of design disciplines fundamental to the creative industries, and based on an industry-focused combination of creativity, communication, technology, and business enterprise. The combination of strong visual communication skills with a detailed understanding of interactivity as a design resource ensures you’ll graduate with a profile of experience required to succeed in your chosen career.
Our interactive and graphic design courses feature unique real-world project and studio-based learning and are designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to become a creative and innovative designer. Your studies will be supported by new digital technologies, well-equipped workshops and design studios, and our design fabrication labs provide a space for hands-on prototyping of designs. You’ll have opportunities to design for electronic media, web technologies, games and physical computing, for personal and mobile platforms, and public installations such as The Cube, QUT’s new state-of-the-art public digital interactive learning and display space.
In our Bachelor of Design (Interactive and Visual Design) you can diversify your study with selected minors or a second major area of study, giving you further career options. You’ll also have the opportunity to combine meaningful, professional workplace activities with academic learning, assessment and support with our Work Integrated Learning program.
Collaborate with the design community through public lectures, student-run exhibitions and off-campus and international study tours to European design capitals such as Italy, Switzerland, Germany and France.
Career outcomes
Visual media pervades virtually every aspect of our daily lives; accessible online, via phones, televisions, urban screens, and in print.
Our graduates work as visual, web or interactive media designers, design or brand strategists, visual systems or experience designers, creative directors, user researchers, interface designers, usability specialists, information architects, and information or interaction designers. Further expertise within the discipline can be achieved through postgraduate study leading to senior roles within practice or an academic career.
