Why study human movement studies at QUT?


Human movements studies professionals promote physical activity, health and wellbeing. Our students can specialise in an area of sports science to prepare for a career in fitness, strength and conditioning, performance analysis, corporate health, or exercise and movement science research.

Our teaching staff form industry partnerships and collaborative projects with the Queensland Academy of Sport, the Queensland Department of Education and Training, and several private and public hospitals.

Our staff are leaders in the field, with many involved in projects on movement and exercise in clinical conditions ranging from Parkinson's disease to obesity, heart disease and injury.

Our facilities include independent laboratories for:

  • Exercise Immunology
  • Biochemistry
  • Biomechanics
  • Motor Control
  • Functional Anatomy
  • Mass Spectrometry
  • Bone Densitometry
  • Biomimetics.

Our students work in the Human Movement and Exercise Clinic and Human Performance Laboratories under the supervision of qualified physiologists to provide:

  • fitness testing and exercise prescription programs for elite athletes and sports people
  • low-cost personal exercise programs and fitness assessments for the local community
  • injury prevention and rehabilitation
  • the on-campus Wellness Program to serve the health and quality of life needs of all staff.
