Two-day workshop
Fundamentals of wound care (two-day workshop)
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this workshop.
Outline
This workshop has been based on the Standards for Wound Management published by the Australian Wound Management Association Inc (AWMA), whose philosophy is that all people with, or who are likely to develop, a wound are entitled to receive personalised care and management that is supported by current validated research. The workshop aims to provide the theoretical basis for wound management in nursing practice to registered nurses employed in any location where wound management is being performed.
This workshop will be conducted over 2 days and comprises 8 sessions:
- Wound assessment
- Principles of wound management
- Dressing products practical workshop
- Ankle brachial pressure index and compression bandaging
- Chronic wounds
- Acute wounds
- Documentation
- Leadership and change management.
On completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
- apply principles of collaborative practice by acknowledging the central role of the individual and their carer in wound management and relevant health care decisions
- apply concepts from the pathophysiological and social sciences when caring for the patient undergoing wound management therapy
- demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of modern wound management therapies and practices
- provide health teaching for patients and support persons which incorporates concepts of lifestyle adjustments and wound management therapy implications.
Half-day workshops

Presenter: Michelle Gibb M Nsg Sci (NP), M Wound Care, BN
Michelle is a Nurse Practitioner in Wound Management and leads the Wound Healing Community Outreach Service at QUT. Michelle has more than ten years experience in wound management and has worked in the general practice, acute, community and aged-care residential environments.
Michelle is currently the Australian Wound Management Association Queensland State Representative, recipient of the Association of Queensland Nurse Leaders Emerging Leaders Award 2009 and was awarded the prestigious Bob and June Prickett Churchill Fellowship in 2010 to explore multidisciplinary wound healing services in the United Kingdom and Denmark. Michelle commenced her PhD in 2011.

Payment
When you register for the course, you will create an account with us.You'll need to pay your fees online by credit or debit card.
You will be able to access your account, including your invoice, using your email address and password.
FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP are not available for Continuing Professional Education courses.
Cancellation
To cancel your registration, you must apply in writing to the Course Manager at the Office of Continuing Professional Education.
If you cancel at least 10 business days before the course commences, you will receive a full refund, minus a non-refundable $100 administration fee.
If you have not paid for your course, we will still invoice you for the $100 administration fee.
No registration refunds will be made within 10 business days of the course starting.
We reserve the right to cancel the course under certain circumstances, such as low registration numbers. If this happens, we will advise you as soon as possible, and give you a full refund. We are not responsible for any expenses you may have incurred if the course is cancelled.
