Presented by Sachi Sellasamy (NZ).

The complex concept of strategic thinking to enhance performance is provided in a simple six-step road map. Research shows strategic ideas are the result of these six steps. While in practice strategic thinking is always an iterative process, the steps form a valuable learning process. For each of the steps a real-world case study is used as an illustration, and participants are able to apply the six steps to their work environment. Who should participate

This course would be beneficial for anybody involved in strategic thinking in the public or private sectors.

The Graduate School of Business would particularly recommend this workshop to managers, senior managers, board members and business owners.

Stages

Stage 1: Pre-workshop activities

Before the workshop, we'll email participants reading material and a simple personal assignment to identify opportunities and challenges in their current work environment. Real issues ensure active workshop participation and discussions.

The workshop uses a modified action learning approach where participants use existing organisational issues they have identified and formulate/draft strategic briefs to enhance performance for management considerations. Real case studies with answers serve as a guide for participants to address their own issues.

Stage 3: Post-workshop support

Participants also receive continuous email support in developing their strategic brief (presentations) to management.

Objectives

The workshop helps participants to:

  • appreciate the values and skills essential for strategy formulation to implementation
  • contribute to the development and implementation of strategies that value add with a win-win for all stakeholders
  • draw up winning ideas and presentations to get buy-in from above and below.

Outcomes

Participants will understand the process involved in strategic thinking as a tool for enhancing performance and develop an action plan for implementation in their own organisation.
