Workshop modules

You can choose to complete the workshop modules without the assessment component and receive recognition of course participation.
Workshop and assessment modules
$2,047 including GST
Assessment includes a professional safety management plan and an examination (theory). You will need to successfully complete the assessment modules to be eligible for credit towards postgraduate qualifications.

Content
This course covers:
- theoretical frameworks for managing and leading OHS in an organisation
- exploration of the management of OHS in high-risk industries, in particular, health, mining and construction
- specific OHS requirements about machinery safety, incident investigation, hazardous substances, dangerous goods, fire safety, and laboratory and biological safety
- lessons learned from some past disasters
- key areas for compliance with the Work Health & Safety Act 2011 (Qld) and the regulations. The Queensland Act is harmonised with NSW, Tas. SA, ACT and Commonwealth Acts
- methods used to investigate the root causes of occupational disease and injury
- strategic leadership and the current views on how to build resilient organisations.
Course materials
You will receive reference texts and online access to databases through Blackboard or the QUT Library.
No textbook is required, however Archer, R. et al. (2012). WHS: A Management Guide. South Melbourne: Cengage Learning Australia can be used as a reference text.
Outcomes
On completion of this course, you should be able to:
- analyse, evaluate and control physical, chemical, biological hazards and psychosocial hazards present in the occupational environment
- apply legislation to the management of construction, hazardous substances and physical hazards
- apply the relevant health and safety standards within the workplace
- investigate, analyse and evaluate the causes of occupational injury and illness.

Cancellation
To cancel your registration, you must apply in writing to the Course Manager at the Office of Continuing Professional Education.
If you withdraw before 7 March 2013, your tuition fees will be refunded less $100. No refunds are applicable after this date.
We reserve the right to cancel the course under certain circumstances, such as low registration numbers. If this happens we will advise you as soon as possible and give you a full refund.
We are not responsible for any expenses you may have incurred if the course is cancelled.
