This course provides an introduction to coding and will involve detailed study of all five volumes of the eighth edition of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) and the practical application of the principles and techniques of coding. Who should participate
This course is ideal if you're an undergraduate student studying for a health qualification, or a professional currently working with health information and you wish to formalise your qualifications.

Workshop modules
$1,535 including GST
You can choose to complete the workshop modules without the assessment component and receive recognition of course participation.
Workshop and assessment modules
$2,047 including GST
Assessment includes a tutorial presentation and two examinations. You will need to successfully complete the assessment modules to be eligible for credit towards undergraduate qualifications.
Australian College of Health Service Managers discount
Australian College of Health Service Managers (ACHSM) members receive a 10% discount. You will need to enter a discount code as provided by ACHSM along with your membership number.

This can be ordered online from the National Casemix and Classification Centre from approximately April 2013. You can purchase either a hard copy of the classification or an eBook version.

Content
This course covers:
- the purpose, value and uses of coding and coded data
- development of the international ICD-10 classification and the International Classification of Diseases - 10th Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM)
- essential principles of coding with the International Classification of Diseases - 10th Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM)
- in-depth instruction on coding rules and conventions and the Australian Coding Standards
- practical application of ICD-10-AM using case studies and discharge summaries.
Outcomes
On completion of this course, you should be able to:
- describe the purpose and application of clinical classification and coding in the health care environment
- understand the structure, organisation and conventions of ICD-10-AM
- critically analyse a health record and abstract relevant data for coding
- apply the principles and techniques of clinical classification to code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-AM.

Payment
When you register for the course, you will create an account with us and pay your fees online by credit or debit card (preferred payment option). There is an option to pay via invoice, if payment by credit/debit card is not possible.
You will be able to access your account, including your invoice, using your email address and password.
FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP are not available for Continuing Professional Education courses.

Cancellation
To cancel your registration, you must apply in writing to the Course Manager at the Office of Continuing Professional Education.
If you withdraw before 8 July 2013, your tuition fees will be refunded less $100.
No refunds are applicable after this date.
We reserve the right to cancel the course under certain circumstances, such as low registration numbers. If this happens, we will advise you as soon as possible, and give you a full refund. We are not responsible for any expenses you may have incurred if the course is cancelled.
