The complexity of messy, 'wicked' problem situations makes it difficult for experienced leaders to produce solutions on their own.
Coaching emphasises collaboration and empowerment, and encourages innovative and creative practice within teams and at all levels of organisations. Coaching gives primacy to values-based change.
Workshop overview
This one-day workshop provides guidance on how to apply robust coaching methodologies to leadership.
The premise of the approach is that tackling the complex challenges in the current global business environment requires an exploratory, curiosity-based and questioning style of leadership. It also requires a focus on developing people. These are features of coaching approaches more typically applied by external executive coaches but increasingly being embedded in the best practice of leadership and management.
Outcomes
Participants will:
- Gain an understanding of how coaching approaches can enhance leadership impact
- Become familiar with useful coaching models and approaches that can be immediately applied
- Sharpen their mental armoury
- Interact with peers in a way that opens up multiple perspectives on real issues
Topics covered
Topics explored in the workshop include:
- GROW coaching and values-based coaching
- Reflective practice
- Solution-focused approaches
- Coaching for and from the ‘second voice'
- The power of not knowing
Preparation for the course
Participants are asked to prepare notes in response to the following questions, based on their understanding and experience:
- What is coaching?
- What is leadership?
- What might be the difference between coaching and leadership?
- What story of success do you have from your leadership experience that may be of value to share in a workshop on coaching?
- What are the two strongest motivational forces for you as a leader?
