The curriculum provides in-demand internet technology skills for designing, building, maintaining and securing networks.

Combining instructor-led, online education with hands-on laboratory exercises, the curriculum enables you to apply what you learn in the class while working on actual networks. From building basic networking skills with routing and switching protocols to advanced routing and multicast traffic control mechanism, the Networking Academy curriculum prepares you for industry certification that leads to lifelong opportunities.

Particular emphasis is given to using decision-making and problem-solving techniques in the application of science, mathematics, communication and social studies concepts to solve networking problems.

You will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.

CCNA Exploration

The Cisco CCNA® Exploration curriculum provides a comprehensive overview of networking; from fundamentals to advanced applications and services. It is based on a top-down approach to networking that is popular in many colleges and universities. This course emphasizes theoretical concepts and practical application, while providing opportunities for students to gain the skills and hands-on experience needed to design, install, operate, and maintain networks.

The CCNA Exploration curriculum is composed of four courses:

  • CCNA 1 - Network Fundamentals
  • CCNA 2 - Routing Protocols and Concepts
  • CCNA 3 - LAN Switching and Wireless
  • CCNA 4 - Accessing the WAN

The CCNA exploration 1/2 course will cover two of those four courses such as:

  • Network Fundamentals
  • Routing Protocols and Concepts

The target certification for CCNA Exploration 1/2 is 640-822 ICND1. There are no prerequisites.

The CCNA exploration 3/4 course will cover two of those four courses such as:

  • LAN Switching and Wireless
  • Accessing the WAN

The target certification for CCNA Exploration 3/4 is 640-816 ICND2. CCNA Exploration 1 and 2 are prerequisites.

CCNP Switch

This course teaches students how to implement, monitor, and maintain switching in converged enterprise campus networks. Students will learn how to plan, configure, and verify the implementation of complex enterprise switching solutions. The course also covers the secure integration of VLANs, WLANs, voice, and video into campus networks. Comprehensive labs emphasize hands-on learning and practice to reinforce configuration skills.

The CCNP curriculum is composed of four courses:

  • CCNP Route
  • CCNP Switch
  • CCNP Troubleshoot

The target certification for CCNP Switch is 642-813 Switch.  CCNA or equivalent work experience are prerequisites.

CCNA Voice

This unit provides internet technology skills for converged voice and data networks as well as the challenges faced by its various technologies. This unit presents generic solutions and implementation considerations to address those challenges. Students will learn about PSTN, Voice over IP network architecture, Voice over IP system components, features, and Quality of Service (QoS) technologies. In particular this unit focuses on developing understanding on the latest VoIP technologies and skills to build VoIP network for campus networking environment.

The target certification for CCNA Voice is 640-461 ICOMM v8.0. CCNA or equivalent work experience are prerequisites.

Registrations for Semester 2 open in May 2012.

When you register, we'll automatically email you an invoice. You must pay for your place in the course by credit card when you register. Please have your credit card ready.

FEE-HELP and HECS are not available for Continuing Professional Education courses.

You cannot pay:

  • in cash
  • at QUT Student Centres
  • into QUT Student Accounts.

Cancellation

To cancel your registration, you must apply in writing to the Course Manager at the Office of Continuing Professional Education.

If you cancel at least 10 business days before the course commences, you will receive a full refund, minus a non-refundable $100 administration fee.

If you have not paid for your course, we will still invoice you for the $100 administration fee.

No registration refunds will be made within 10 business days of the course starting.

We reserve the right to cancel the course under certain circumstances, such as low registration numbers. If this happens, we will advise you as soon as possible, and give you a full refund. We are not responsible for any expenses you may have incurred if the course is cancelled.
