Overview

After introducing the main concepts of Business Process Management, this course presents a structured approach to business process lifecycle management, with a focus on the three key phases of process identification, analysis and improvement.

For each of these phases, the course illustrates the underlying techniques and associated state-of-the-art methods, and demonstrates their application on real-life processes.

Practical exercises and a final case study help you put in practice the content learned throughout the course. Who should participate

Anyone wanting to improve their organisation's business processes. There are no prerequisites, however a basic understanding of process modelling would be helpful.

Details

As one of our training courses on Business Process Management (BPM), this three-day course focuses on business process identification, analysis and improvement. It is the perfect complement of our course on Process Modelling with BPMN. It provides a set of tools and a structured methodology for managing a process across the BPM lifecycle and covers a range of topics, from the identification and design of a process to its ongoing improvement, execution, and control.

This course complements the content of our course on Process Modelling with BPMN.

Day 1

  • Introduction to BPM
  • Process selection and identification
  • Process architectures
  • Pitfalls of process selection and identification
  • Introduction to process analysis
  • Qualitative analyses techniques (SWOT, Pareto, issue register).

Day 2

  • Quantitative analysis techniques (flow analysis, queues, simulation)
  • Pitfalls of process analysis
  • Introduction to process improvement
  • Improvement driven by issues vs. opportunities
  • Improvement by enhancement (process improvement patterns)
  • Improvement by derivation (reference models, best practices, practice adaptation).

Day 3

  • Improvement by innovation (brainstorming, six hats, crowdsourcing, creativity techniques)
  • Improvement by utilisation (people/data/systems matrix, positive deviance)
  • Process improvement portfolio
  • Pitfalls of process improvement
  • Final case study.

Course outcomes 

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Identify the business processes within your organization and organize them in process architectures based on various criteria.
  • Use a wide range of techniques to analyse the quality of your business processes and effectively improve them.
All completing participants receive a certificate of successful completion.

Cancellation

To cancel your registration, you must apply in writing to the Course Manager at the Office of Continuing Professional Education.

If you cancel at least 10 business days before the course commences, you will receive a partial refund, i.e. the full fee minus a non-refundable $100 administration fee.

No registration refunds will be made after this time.

We reserve the right to cancel the course under certain circumstances, such as low registration numbers. If this happens, we will advise you as soon as possible, and give you a full refund. We are not responsible for any expenses you may have incurred if the course is cancelled.
