This course provides participants with the basic physical principles and radiographic techniques used in imaging the chest and extremities. The course is designed for registered health or allied health professionals engaged in limited routine radiography. In addition to lectures, the program provides practical instruction and the opportunity to development basic positioning and technical skills.
A person successfully completing this course, subject to meeting some other requirements detailed in the documents 'Licensing of X-ray operators' and 'Competencies required for diagnostic radiography of the chest and extremities' will be eligible to obtain a trainee chest and extremities licence
Content
The major topics covered are:
- Basic Radiation Physics
- Radiographic Equipment
- Radiographic Technique
- Radiographic Processing
- Radiation Protection
- Licensing Regulations
The course will run for five consecutive days, Monday to Friday. It consists of formal lectures and small group practical or tutorial sessions. An examination will be conducted on the fifth day. Lectures and practical sessions will be held through the Medical Radiation Sciences Discipline. The radiographic suite is well equipped with five general X-ray units, mobile equipment and modern processing facilities.
Additional Information
Workplace Health and Safety regulations require appropriate dress for practical sessions, i.e. closed in shoes. The course assumes knowledge of bony anatomy and medical terminology. Some course pre-reading notes will be provided to all registrants approximately two weeks prior to course commencement date.

When you register, we'll automatically email you an invoice. You can pay for your place in the workshop by credit card when you register, or by cheque, EFT/direct debit or credit card once you've received your invoice.
Credit card is the preferred option. Payment due Friday 23 November 2012.
FEE-HELP and HECS are not available for Continuing Professional Education courses.
Cancellation
To cancel your registration, you must apply in writing to the Course Manager at the Office of Continuing Professional Education.
If you cancel before 5pm, 23 November, you will receive a refund, minus a non-refundable $100 administration fee.
If you have not paid for your course, we will still invoice you for the $100 administration fee.
No registration refunds will be made after 5pm, 23 November. Cancellations made after that time will be charged the full fee (even if you have not made the full payment).
We reserve the right to cancel the course under certain circumstances, such as low registration numbers. If this happens, we will advise you as soon as possible, and give you a full refund. We are not responsible for any expenses you may have incurred if the course is cancelled.
