Details
The approach to assessment has moved beyond a narrow summative, 'end-point' testing focus to a broader focus on assessment as a means of improving teaching and learning. This is sometimes referred to as assessment for learning.
Current research suggests that assessment for learning is a 'student-centred' process of inquiry, decision-making, adaptation and transformation.
It is a learning process that can be used to inform teaching and learning where curriculum relevant information is gathered, learned from, and responded to in a way that will make a difference to and improve learning of ALL students.
This process includes reciprocal learning conversations in the classroom context where students and teachers can learn from and contribute to the process and collaborate in the setting of learning goals, targets, success criteria and descriptive feedback to guide further learning.
