The WIPO-QUT Master of Intellectual Property Law is offered jointly by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and QUT’s Faculty of Law. This innovative course has been developed in partnership with WIPO Worldwide Academy and support from IP Australia and is the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region.
The course is designed to meet the needs of current and aspiring intellectual property (IP) professionals from law and non-law backgrounds. It provides knowledge of IP law, policy and practice in an international context with an emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region.
Knowledge of international conventions and treaties including the role of WIPO in addressing IP in relation to global challenges such as climate change, public health and food security is developed in the course.
Industry experts from WIPO, IP Australia and the legal profession as well as leading Australian and international academics teach in the course.
WIPO
WIPO is a specialised agency of the United Nations. It is dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible international IP system, which rewards creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest.
WIPO provides education and training in IP via the WIPO Worldwide Academy. The Academy meets the growing demand for education and awareness in IP through collaborative courses in Europe and Africa, and now in the Asia-Pacific region with the WIPO-QUT Master of Intellectual Property Law.
Each year, WIPO offers scholarships to three applicants from the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Australia and New Zealand) who are highly motivated to develop a career in the IP field.

Units
Course structure
The course requires satisfactory completion of eight core units or equivalent as determined by the Program Director. The course is offered in full-time mode.
Each unit is delivered in a week of intensive classes (26 hours per unit) spread over two semesters (mid-February to late-October).

Entry requirements
Students require a four year Bachelor degree from QUT or from another equivalent institution. Students with a three year degree require professional experience in the field of intellectual property or a related area deemed to be equivalent to one year of tertiary education, as approved by the Program Director in consultation with the Director Graduate Programs.
Minimum English language requirements
Students must meet the English proficiency requirements.
