Doctor of Philosophy students are challenged to demonstrate academic rigour in a broad field of learning and to make an original and substantial contribution to knowledge in that field.

A PhD provides students with highly developed research and analytical skills, as well as a depth of knowledge in their chosen field. This can lead to an academic career in both teaching and research, or advance professional career prospects in that chosen field.

The PhD program normally includes assessed coursework that supports a candidate’s research and preparation of a thesis of approximately 100 000 words.
