Flexible course options
In the Bachelor of Design you will choose one of four majors. You then have flexibility to study a range of minors and either additional specialisation units or electives.
If you want to travel overseas, immerse yourself in a different culture and be on pace with the design trends emerging in another country, the Bachelor of Design - International may be for you. This degree combines the three-year Bachelor of Design with one year of international studies, giving you all of the outcomes of the standard degree including your choice of majors, plus the advantages of a flexible year of international studies.
What you’ll study
Your Bachelor of Design will begin with Design Impact Labs where you will begin to conceptualise and negotiate how you, as a designer, can address the challenges that demand multi-faceted solutions and responses to diverse situational stakeholders and/or social agendas. Through collaboration with students from other disciplines, you’ll focus on problems and social issues, identifying potential solutions connected to industry and community stakeholders. The labs are a great way to engage with your fellow students.
Double degrees
QUT offers a range of new double degree options that give you greater career flexibility and provide an edge in a highly competitive design industry. Options include combining visual communication with business or psychology; fashion design with business; industrial design with business or engineering; or interaction design with business or IT.

Designing beyond the classroom
'I was drawn to QUT because of its focus on real-world learning and hands-on design projects. I wanted to study in an environment where I could actually create things not just study theory. Hands-on learning
'I really enjoyed DYB121 (Introduction to Design Fabrication) because throughout the whole unit, we had the chance to work on various design briefs and materials to create prototypes. This was my first introduction to using design equipment such as 3D printing, laser cutting and the hot wire foam cutter, which was useful and fun.'
