The Kelvin Grove virtual tour is a snapshot of life at QUT through the eyes of our students.

F Block

This is the Student Learning and Support Centre. This is where you will find the Student Centre which is a one stop shop for all student queries. F Block also houses F509, the biggest lecture theatre on this campus; a 24-hour computer lab, student support staff, coffee cart and a four storey car park.

The amphitheatre space beside F Block is also used for performances, events and for students looking for a space to eat lunch in the shade.

Student Centre

Each QUT campus has a Student Centre - a one-stop shop for all student queries. The Student Centres are especially useful during the first few weeks of semester and employ current students, who remember what it was like on their first day, to help new students find their feet. Student Centre staff will help you with enquiries regarding admission, advanced standing, enrolment, fees, student ID cards, transport concessions, and other student administration or general enquiries.

24-hour computer lab

QUT provides students with access to computer laboratories close to each of QUT's libraries, and within faculty buildings. Email, access to the Internet, library services, word processing and printing facilities are available from all lab computers. Specialist software is also available on computers in faculty based labs to support particular courses. Kelvin Grove campus has a number of computer labs for students, some open 24 hours a day during semester.

R Block

QUT Library has four branch libraries at Caboolture Library, Gardens Point Library, Kelvin Grove Library and the Law Library, each providing resources and services to support the learning, teaching and research needs of the students and staff of their campus or faculty. The Library also provide online guides, tutorials and real-time workshops to help students to study, research and write effectively for university. At the Library, students can also use individual or group study areas, computer labs, printers and photocopiers.

Assignment Minder

Assignment Minder is a secure assignment drop-off and collection service for QUT students. Students can submit their assignments at the assignment minder desk at any campus, and collect their assignment from their home campus. The barcode on the assignment submission form is scanned along with the student's ID and the assignment is time and date stamped. The student will receive an email confirming submission of the assignment, and another email when their assignment has been marked and is ready for collection. The assignment is electronically tracked throughout the process to ensure the security of the student's work

Curriculum collection

This is a special collection of teaching resources for education students. It supports curriculum studies and provides resources for use during professional experience placements. It contains information resources of different types, in a range of formats, texts, kits, 'big books', fiction and non-fiction, and audiovisual materials such as videos, CD-ROMs and audiocassettes. There are also reference materials designed for use in the classroom, such as encyclopedias and atlases; and graphical material such as posters, photos and other illustrations. It is also useful for international students and contains English language learning resources.

A Block

In A block you will find the faculty office for Education. Also in A block on the ground level is the 24-hour Security office as well as the on-campus MECU credit union.

B Block

Students in the Faculty of Education have most of their classes in B block. B block is also the location of the Field Experience Office, the area responsible for the placement and support of Education students in their practical field experience units.

QUT's Oodgeroo Unit which provides entry programs and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as well as education and research in Aboriginal Studies and Torres Strait Islander Studies and associated areas of interest is located in B block.

The building also includes a Muslim prayer space.

Beadles

Beadles on the Quad at Kelvin Grove campus is just one of the many food outlets where students can enjoy catching up with friends for breakfast or lunch, or a light snack and coffee.

44 Musk Avenue

Located at 44 Musk Avenue are the teaching and community clinics for the Faculty of Health, Healthstream gymnasium and indoor pool, and QUT Health Services, which offers medical services to QUT staff and students.

Pool

Healthstream operate a fitness centre and aquatic centre at 44 Musk Avenue, featuring a 25-metre indoor pool. The centre is open to students, staff and members of the community.

QUT Health Services

QUT Health Services provides medical and emergency care for students and staff on all campuses of the University, including first aid, minor surgery, sexual health checks and contraception advice, blood testing, vaccination, surveillance of medical conditions and education on health.

Urban Village

The Kelvin Grove Urban Village is a master-planned community, bringing together residential, educational, retail, health, recreational and business opportunities into a vibrant new precinct. For QUT students it offers a range of outlets including supermarket, pharmacy, newsagent, cafes, restaurants and takeaways and an enhanced campus experience through local events and weekend farmers markets.

Campus Living Villages (Kelvin Grove)

The Campus Living Villages Kelvin Grove is located adjacent to the QUT Kelvin Grove campus. The facility offers a range of apartments in 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 bedroom configurations, each designed and fully furnished specifically for students.

Childcare Centre

QUT's Kelvin Grove campus features a childcare centre for children ranging in age from 15 months to school age.

Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (Q Block)

The Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) integrates creative minds from health, science and biomedical engineering research to work on global health problems.

C Block

This is also known as the community building.
In C block you will find student support services, food vendors and retail outlets, including:

Careers and Employment, Counselling Services

QUT Careers and Employment service assists students with their career development and employment preparation, and offers a large range of services and resources in these areas including a resume checking service, interview workshops, employer presentations and the QUT Careers and Futures Fair, career mentor scheme, web resources and free career counselling.

QUT Counselling Services provides a professional, confidential and free counselling service to students. A range of services are offered by the staff in the Counselling Service which assist students to make the most of their experiences, especially their university experience. Our staff are committed to assisting students find solutions to a range of problems. Individual counselling is offered to students for academic and personal problems, and group programs are run in the areas of stress management, motivation, self esteem, time management, exam skills and dealing with exam stress.

Refectory

Alliance Catering operates the refectory at Kelvin Grove, offering students a wide range of sandwiches, snacks, hot meals and drinks.

QUT Bookshop

The QUT Bookshop sells textbooks, general books, QUT course notes and readings, medical supplies and anatomical models, stationery, software, hardware, and ink cartridges. Students can purchase their books instore, or use phone, fax, email or online ordering.

Guild Bar

The Kelvin Grove Guild Bar is operated by the QUT Student Guild and offers drinks, meals and snacks, pool tables, big screen TV with FOXTEL and regular entertainment and events.

Lolly Shop

The Lolly Shop, located on both Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point campuses, is the perfect place to indulge your sweet tooth.

Guild Shop

The QUT Student Guild owns and operates a newsagency on campus at Kelvin Grove. The newsagency is also an Australia Post Office and provides the full range of postal services. The newsagency sells a wide variety of goods including milk, magazines, stationery, phone credits, and GO Cards.

QUT Busway

QUT's campuses are well serviced by public transport. The Kelvin Grove campus has its own station on the inner northern busway, providing quick access to the northern suburbs, the CBD, and inner southern suburbs. Kelvin Grove Road is another major bus route. QUT also offers a free inter-campus shuttle bus between Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point campuses, leaving every 10 minutes.

Creative Industries Precinct

The multi-million dollar Creative Industries Precinct is Australia's first site dedicated to creative experimentation and commercial development in the creative industries, providing unique opportunities between researchers, students, educators and industry. The Precinct features interactive exhibition spaces, an experimental black-box theatre, multimedia performance and public artwork exhibition spaces.

Students use industry-standard equipment in the areas of animation, fashion, creative and performing arts, journalism, multimedia and film and television. Music, dance, acting, technical production and design students collaborate on performances and exhibitions.

Creative start-up businesses under the mentorship of QUT Creative Enterprise Australia are resident in the Precinct's Enterprise Centre to fast track their commercial success as part of this vibrant creative community. La Boite Theatre Company which is Australia's oldest continuously running theatre company, is also on the Precinct as well.

Animation and Creative Industries

QUT animation students are employed in the games, animation and visual effects industries. While at QUT students use high-end software packages and work in industry-standard animation studies. In their final year, QUT animation students showcase their work to industry professionals in a graduate exhibition.

Fashion and Creative Industries

QUT delivers the only bachelor degree in fashion in Queensland. Student work is showcased to industry and students have the opportunity to undertake an industry internship and business planning project to set them up for the real world. Graduates of the degree work as independent designers, or designers in large fashion houses, or as fashion stylists and product development managers.

Journalism

QUT journalism and film, television and new media students have access to industry standard equipment and facilities including dedicated newsrooms, radio and TV studios, editing suites and production offices. Journalism students also gain a range of practical skills through contributions such as writing and presenting online news.

H Block

Visual arts students are each allocated their own studio space to work on exhibition pieces. Facilities include pottery firing workshops and kilns, print making facilities and metal, wood and sculpting workshop spaces equipped with industrial process machinery which are staffed by experienced technicians. Their work is exhibited on campus and at galleries around Brisbane throughout their degree.

L Block

L Block is home to the Woodward Theatre in which acting, drama and technical production students create experimental works and explore new performance forms, such as live and mediated performance, physical theatre, applied performance and innovative performance processes.

M Block

Music and sound students have access to recording studios using digital recording and editing systems and rehearsal spaces. QUT students launch their careers through public performances in Brisbane's live music venues and festivals, such as the Brisbane Festival.

O Block

There are two main dance studios in O Block as well as other rehearsal spaces in G block and X Block further down the Ring Road. Throughout the year dance students showcase their work and perform at The Loft and Gardens Theatre. Others who are studying dance and education diversify their dance skills across a wide range of dance genres. Practice rooms for music students are also housed in O Block, as well as lecture theatres and classrooms for the Faculty of Health.

X Block

X block houses dance studios used for rehearsals and studio practice by QUT dance students. There are additional studios located in O block and G Block.

G Block

G block houses dance studios used for rehearsals and studio practice by QUT dance students. There are additional studios located in O block and X Block.

S Block

S block is used by Education students and includes the maths curriculum room, science education room and computer labs specifically for Education students. The maths and science rooms are where students learn how to teach maths and science to their future students by using up to date resources such as interactive whiteboards, and undertaking science experiments.

E Block

This building contains a number of general teaching spaces and classrooms, and is also home to the paramedics teaching clinics where students can gain practical experience to complement their studies.

N Block

N block is home to the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Students studying in these areas undertake hands-on practical placements, and also gain experience using the nursing labs located in N block.

K Block

Acting students undertake their studio work in K Block. They learn voice, movement, singing, combat and improvisation techniques, and rehearse for their live theatre productions and film shoots which are conducted on location with professional film crews. There is a specialist computer lab for music and sound design students to create, compose and manipulate sound to form new works. Creative writing teaching staff are also located in K Block.

P Block

P block is the location of the QUT International College. The International College offers pathway programs for students wishing to learn or improve their English and continue further studies at QUT. QUT International College also provides a supportive introduction to life on campus, helping students settle in to university life and meet new people. The College has its own dedicated student learning and recreational facilities. These include:

The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) is a special centre for individual study where students can improve their listening skills; work on their writing, reading, grammar and vocabulary; or relax with a video after class.

Students have their own dining/kitchen area and common lounge, as well as an outdoor recreation area. International College students can also access facilities across all QUT campuses including sporting fields, gymnasiums, swimming pools and health services.

QUT shuttle bus

QUT provides a free shuttle bus between Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove for students to attend lectures or use facilities across both campuses. The service operates every 10 minutes during semesters 1 and 2, making it a convenient and quick way to move between the campuses.

At both Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point campuses a night shuttle bus operates. At Kelvin Grove, this shuttle operates on a hail and ride basis, transporting students to on-campus carparks.
