Eligibility details

We'll evaluate applications on:

  1. Evidence of contribution to the university community, through:
    • leadership on committees
    • peer assistance
    • sporting activities
    • professional development
    • influence in student and university issues.
  2. Evidence of other contributions to the wider community while enrolled as a student, with an emphasis on volunteer or charitable work.
  3. Evidence of personal development, including:
    • work experience
    • creative pursuits
    • interests and hobbies
    • overcoming challenging.
  4. Academic achievements. Passing grades overall are essential.

Include relevant comments on any projects the nominee was involved in, including:

  • leadership
  • originality
  • duration of involvement
  • time commitment
  • impact of any project involvement.

What you receive

You'll receive official acknowledgment of your achievements, and a certificate. The Student Leader of the Year will receive an engraved award. You'll also be acknowledged at the Outstanding Alumni Awards.

How to apply

You must be nominated for this award. Nominations for the awards may be submitted by members of the university community and the wider community, including:

  • a graduate of QUT or its predecessor institutions
  • a staff member of QUT
  • a student of QUT
  • an employee
  • a member of the community
  • a parent
  • a student club or group.
All nominees need a statement of support by one or two referees.

Nominations are open annually. To nominate a student, complete the nomination form and submit it to the Alumni and Development Office. Contact the Alumni and Development Office for a copy of the form.

What happens next

The Student Leadership Awards judging panel will assess the applications. The panel will include:

  • The Vice-Chancellor (or nominated representative)
  • The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development) (or nominated representative)
  • President of the QUT Alumni Board (or nominated representative)
  • Alumni Relations Manager
  • One academic and one professional staff member nominated by the Alumni Board.
  • Up to four recognised high achieving external alumni from business, industry and the professions (including past Outstanding Alumni Award winners and where possible, previous Student Leadership Award winners), nominated by the QUT Alumni Board
  • The QUT Guild President or nominee
  • The Equity Coordinator

The panel will award:

  • up to 9 Student Leadership Excellence awards
  • one Student Leader of the Year
  • Special Excellence Award winners.

Background

The Student Leadership Awards, an initiative of QUT Alumni, aim to recognise students for the quality of their engagement with the University and the wider community.
