Eligibility details
You must be:
- an Australian citizen of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
- a commencing full-time or part-time first-year student in our Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or double degree incorporating the Bachelor of Laws.
You must be able to demonstrate:
- financial and social hardship
- academic aptitude
- an ongoing commitment to the Indigenous community.
What you receive
You'll receive:
- a $5,000 scholarship to cover HECS fees, tuition, books or living costs.
The scholarship is paid as a cash stipend, with half of the amount being paid at the beginning of each semester.
How to apply
You must:
- complete the application form:
- include details and documentation which demonstrates your need for the scholarship
- mark your application 'Private and Confidential'
- submit by mail or in person to the Faculty of Law Administration Officer, or email it to the Faculty of Law Scholarships and Prizes.
What happens next
We'll advise you when we've received your application.
Our selection panel will assess your application and shortlist applicants based on the scholarship criteria.
If you're shortlisted, we'll contact you to arrange an interview and confirm your interview by email.
If you're successful in your interview, we'll notify you by phone, as well as sending you a letter or email to confirm the details of your scholarship.
If your application is unsuccessful, we'll notify you by email.

Conditions
You must:
- stay enrolled in a minimum of one law subject each semester
- maintain a GPA of 4.0 (Pass) for each semester of the scholarship.
Background
The McCullough Robertson Scholarship for commencing Indigenous students is offered to first-year Indigenous students enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws or associated double degrees. The aim of the scholarship is to support Indigenous students who are experiencing financial hardship and to provide pathways into the private legal profession through ongoing contact with McCullough Robertson.
