Eligibility details
You must:
- be an international student, and a citizen of the People's Republic of China
- be resident in China and not be currently working or studying overseas
- return to China after your studies
- apply for a PhD, masters by research (1 year programs only), or professional doctorate
- meet the entry requirements for your chosen program, including IELTS or TOEFL
- be intending to research in one of QUT's and the China Scholarship Council's priority areas. These include:
- energy resources
- water and minerals
- environment
- agriculture
- manufacturing industry
- transport
- information industry (including digital media)
- population and health
- technological study on urbanisation and city development
- public security (including public health)
- national defence.
Current PhD students must get recommendations from their professors and supervisors if they wish to be considered for the scholarship.
What you receive
You'll receive from QUT:
- a tuition fee waiver for the duration of your course:
- 1 year for masters students
- 3 years for doctoral students
- a QUT Top Up Scholarship, for students commencing in 2012 only.
(Note: Total amount received by the student from QUT and CSC will be equivalent to the APA rate. APA rate for 2012 is $23,728 per annum).
You'll receive from CSC:
- funding for living allowances, airfares, and visa application fees.

Apply to QUT for a research degree in November.
In the 'Scholarship applicants' section of your application, state that you are a CSC applicant.
Step-by-step guide to applying for research degrees as an international student

Apply to the China Scholarship Council (CSC) for funding and an employer reference by 16 December 2011.
Your application must include:
- a hard copy of the signed CSC application form
- the completed CSC Employer Reference form
- certified copies of your academic transcripts.
What happens next
If you're successful, you'll be notified approximately 6 weeks after submitting your application.
Background
QUT and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) are jointly awarding postgraduate scholarships to Chinese students who intend to undertake a postgraduate research degree at QUT.
