Why choose this course?

The Graduate Diploma in Education will allow you to obtain a teaching qualification if you have a degree in a field other than education. The Graduate Diploma in Education is an innovative and progressive qualification which will prepare you for teaching in school settings in one of:

  • Early Years
  • Primary: P–7
  • Middle Years
  • Senior Years.

The course includes educational and curriculum studies in your chosen study area and field experience in school settings.

Career outcomes

Early Years prepares you to teach in primary schools as an early childhood specialist (Prep to Year 3).

Primary: P–7 prepares you to teach all years in a primary school (Prep to Year 7).

Middle Years prepares you to teach in primary schools and as a middle years teacher (Years 4 to 9).

Senior Years prepares you to teach in secondary schools (Years 8 to 12), with your career guided by your two teaching areas.

Professional recognition

This course meets the requirements for registration as a teacher in Queensland. It is recognised nationally and internationally; however, additional requirements may be needed for some locations.

Graduate School Program Early Years (full-time, internal)

You can gain early experience in schools before your formal field experience commences. The program is strongly recommended and it is essential that you have a valid blue card in order to participate.

Primary: P–7 supporting professional program block

In addition to lectures, tutorials and field experience blocks, you will complete four supporting professional program blocks, during which full-time attendance on campus or in a school setting is required. A blue card is required to participate. For more information, visit the Faculty of Education.

You will be required to complete two field studies units where you undertake full-time field experiences.

The majority of field experience must be completed in Australian schools.
