Details

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in science and technology suits graduates with an honours or masters degree who wish to pursue high-level research and be equipped to seek employment in industry, research organisations and universities.

The PhD is awarded in recognition of a candidate’s knowledge and education in a broad field of learning and for notable accomplishment in that field through an original and substantial contribution to knowledge. The candidate’s research must reveal high critical ability and powers of imagination and synthesis and may be in the form of new knowledge or significant and original adaptation, application and interpretation of existing knowledge.

Topics can include multidisciplinary problems suggested by external bodies, for example, industry, government and commerce, with joint supervisors from both academic and outside environments. The candidate’s doctoral work can be undertaken either on campus or at an off-campus location approved by QUT. The candidate’s PhD will be linked with one of the science and technology research areas.
