QUT was the first provider of tertiary nurse education in Queensland and has more than 30 years of industry consultation and experience. Our collaboration with industry ensures this course is innovative in design and produces graduates who can respond to real-world health challenges. Our partnerships with healthcare facilities mean you can complete your placements in areas of nursing practice that are of interest to you, for example, women's health or paediatrics. You will also develop specific skills in the Clinical Simulation Centre, a facility that simulates environments and situations that mirror real workplace environments.
Public health professionals are skilled in developing and delivering health initiatives that focus on improving the health and wellbeing of whole populations. They often specialise in a specific area of health and, during this course, you will be able to select a study pathway that aligns with your career goals. You will also complete a work placement that will expose you to public health in practice and provide you with valuable industry contacts.
Career outcomes
QUT nursing graduates are in high demand and have excellent employment opportunities in Australia and internationally. Graduates are employed in hospitals and nursing homes, as well as service areas such as community health, domiciliary nursing, school health, pathology laboratories, alcohol and drug dependence and the armed services.
Many public health graduates work in local, state or national health departments. Their role may focus on health education and promotion, policy development, cancer prevention, epidemiology, risk management, sexual and reproductive health, disease prevention and research and evaluation.
Graduates may also work in non-government and community organisations in roles that focus on advocacy for minority groups, or as consultants and project officers in international health agencies.
Graduate roles include: health promotion officers, school health educators, assistant epidemiologists, researchers, state and national health program managers and health policy officers.
Student registration
QUT automatically registers students enrolled in this course with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia in accordance with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009. Professional recognition
Graduates are eligible for membership with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, Public Health Association of Australia and the Australian Health Promotion Association. Graduates may also apply for membership of the Royal College of Nursing Australia.

Assumed knowledge
Before you start this course we assume you have sound knowledge in these areas:

We assume that you have knowledge equivalent to four semesters at high school level (Years 11 and 12) with sound achievement (4, SA).

Course fees
