Engineering Technology, Maths C, Languages other than English (LOTE) students: Entry bonus scheme

If you've completed certain subjects at school, or university level units, we'll add bonus points to your rank (or OP equivalent).

This might help you get into the course you want even if your original OP or rank doesn't meet the cut-off.

Am I eligible for the entry bonus?

You can claim the bonus if you're a current Australian Year 12 student and applying for university entry straight after finishing school.

I want to take a year off before I start university

If your course allows you to defer, you can still claim the entry bonus, as long as you apply to start university straight after Year 12, receive an offer and defer it through QTAC.

Not all courses have the option to defer. You'll need to check your course details.

What subjects do I get bonuses for?

Subject studied in Year 12 Maximum bonus QTAC ranks If you apply for:
Engineering Technology 2 Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering - Dean's Scholars Program
Maths C 2 Any course that doesn't have additional entry requirements
Languages other than English (LOTE) 2 Any course that doesn't have additional entry requirements
University units (e.g. through START QUT) 1 Any course that doesn't have additional entry requirements

What don't bonus points count for?

Bonus points don't count when you apply for:

  • courses with additional entry requirements, like auditions, interviews, portfolios or questionnaires. Check your course details to see if your course has additional entry requirements.
  • Dean's Honours or Dean's Scholars Programs, except the Bachelor of Engineering - Dean's Scholars Program, which will count the bonus for completing Engineering Technology.
  • scholarships that require an minimum OP.

What's the maximum bonus?

If you qualify for bonus points in all of the subject areas you can receive the maximum 7 bonus points.

You can only receive the maximum bonus in each category. For example, no matter how many languages you studied, you can still only get two bonus points in the Languages other than English category.

I'm not from Queensland

If you completed Year 12 in another state or completed the International Baccalaureate, check the list of equivalent subjects.

How to apply

Just complete your QTAC application on time. If you completed the START-QUT program, make sure you include the details.

You don't need to apply separately for the Entry Bonus, QTAC will calculate it automatically.
