QUT endeavours to provide full and equal access to learning for students with particular needs, by providing a range of support services and assistance, and by improving our policies and practices to enhance equitable access for all students.
Low-income background students
The University provides a program of support services for students from low-income backgrounds who gain admission to QUT through the Q-Step Program. Students from low-income backgrounds may be eligible for financial support through a range of scholarship and bursary schemes.
Indigenous students
QUT offers academic, administrative and cultural support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, as part of promoting cultural awareness and social justice for Australia's indigenous people. The University's activities in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education, studies and research are coordinated through the Oodgeroo Unit, This Unit provides facilities on all campuses where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can study and interact socially.
Non-English speaking background
QUT provides language and learning support for International students and those from non-English speaking backgrounds, through International Student Services.
Students with disabilities
The University provides special assistance for students with disabilities who need support services or course accommodations.
- Disability Services assists students with permanent or temporary disability or medical condition.
- Guide for Students with Disabilities provides information about special facilities and procedures, relevant forms, contact details, and explains the Disability Program,
- Psychiatric Disability provides information about both academic and personal support services which are available at the University.
Students with religious convictions
QUT students who have religious convictions which preclude attendance at examinations in accordance with the official timetable have the right to alternative examination arrangements. Refer to QUT's Manual of Policy and Procedures (MOPP) in Section E/6.1.9 Alternative examination sittings for students with religious obligations.
