Equipment, testing and facilities hire
We pride ourselves on our world-class facilities and equipment, designed to mirror the real-world environments that students will encounter.
These state-of-the-art laboratories, workshops and research facilities are available for use on a charge-for-use basis when not required for academic purposes. We can conduct testing on your behalf, using advanced equipment such as spectrometers and thermal analysis systems.
Analytical Electron Microscopy Facility
Located at our Gardens Point campus, the Analytical Electron Microscopy Facility is our central facility for electron microscopy and related analytical techniques, and houses over $4 million in imaging and specimen preparation equipment.
Analytical Electron Microscopy Facility
Applied Optics Laboratory
The Applied Optics Laboratory conducts research to promote a greater understanding of light-matter interactions and the processes used to fabricate photonic devices, and focuses on optical metrology, environmental monitoring and photonics.
Geoscience Analytical Laboratory
The Geoscience Analytical Laboratory conducts analysis of a wide variety of earth materials, including rocks, sediments, soil and water.
Microgravity Drop Tower
QUT boasts the only teaching, research and microgravity testing facility in the Southern Hemisphere, which makes us a global leader in research on the phenomena and effects of microgravity in various research disciplines.
Microgravity testing services are available for external users and can accommodate one-off experiments or extended test programs.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging Laboratory
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility supports a range of inter-disciplinary research applications in medical physics, biophysics and non-destructive testing.
Molecular Population Genetics Research Laboratory
We have a modern research facility with capability to develop and screen variation with most modern molecular markers, including allozymes, mtDNA, PCR-RFLP, AFLPs, microsatellites and EPIC's.
Recirculated Freshwater Aquaculture Facility
We have a module-based freshwater, recirculated aquaculture research facility with temperature and light control. Individual modules consist of between 15 to 30 tanks which vary in capacity from 20L to 200L and are designed for replicated trials.
Vibrational Spectroscopy Facility
Our vibrational spectroscopy equipment facility can test and identify a range of unknown and trace materials, and includes advanced spectrometers and microscopes.
Workshop
The workshop provides a range of services from design, sheet metal fabrication, precision machining and CNC turning/milling.
