2013 Vice-Chancellor Science, Techonology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Camp

25 June 2013

In 2013, high-achieving Year 11 students will have an exciting opportunity to attend an interactive Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) camp and engage in solving some of the major challenges facing our society and planet in the twenty-first century. Students will take advantage of a unique learning environment with an opportunity to experience ground-breaking research as it happens, inside world-class research facilities.

Held over four days at the end of June, the VC STEM camp will give students a taste of all science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines and hands-on, intensive exploration of a project in their chosen discipline. It is important to emphasize that activities will be used to link the importance of STEM to career opportunities in those fields.

Students will select one STEM discipline and work in teams of 3-4 and apply their creativity and investigative skills on topics such as addressing environmental issues; solving problems in the energy, food and medical sectors; and improving information dissemination and security.

The camp will enable students to immerse themselves in the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics from the very first day. Students will experience real university laboratories and learning spaces, and will interact with current STEM students, academic staff and leading researchers to find out what life is like on the university campus.

The VC STEM Camp is a four day camp run in the Mid Semester holiday break, June 2013. The camp is fully funded by QUT - there is no cost for students to attend. The camp is open to both Regional students and Local students.
