Significant achievements
- Over 75% of our research was ranked world-class or better in the Australia Government's Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assessment exercise.
- In 2005-2009, our research income growth has consistently outperformed all other Australian universities.
- In 2011, we ranked in the top 10 nationally for block grant funding awarded on research performance across research income, higher degree research student load and completions and research publications.
- In terms of aggregated national grant performance, we are ranked 12th in the country.
- In 2010, we were in the top 10 for volume of research publications.
- We are a consistent top 10 performer in the ARC Linkage Scheme, which is designed to bring university-based researchers and end users together to solve industry problems.

We have a ranking of world standard or above in more than 75% of our research, as assessed under the Australian Government's Excellence in Research for Australia assessment framework (2010).

The Australian has published a ranking of universities based on the Australian Research Council's Excellence in Research Australia (ERA 2010) outcomes, in which we rank 10th in terms of research quality.
We are ranked 9th in Australia for research block grant government funding awarded based on research performance (2010).

Physical Chemistry
We were one of only 5 universities in Australia, and the only university in Queensland, to receive the top rating of 5 in Physical Chemistry.
Nursing
We are one of only three universities in Australia to be awarded a top rating of 5 in Nursing.
Information Systems
We were the only university in Australia to receive the top rating of 5 for Information Systems.

We were one of only two universities in Australia to receive rating of 4 in Building, which was the highest rating awarded in this discipline in Australia.

We were one of only 3 universities in Australia to receive a rating of 4 in Education, which was the highest rating awarded in this discipline in Australia.
