Sugar Technology Innovation Scholarship (STIS)
QUT, in conjunction with the Sugar Research and Development Corporation and Sugar Research Institute, offers five scholarships to students of exceptional research potential specific to the sugar processing industry.
How much will I receive?
- $30,000 per annum, tax exempt
- Payable for up to three years for doctoral students and up to two years for masters students
- Additional allowances for relocation and thesis preparation
Am I eligible?
- New domestic or international students enrolled full-time (unless otherwise approved by QUT).
- Doctor of Philosophy, Masters by Research, or Professional Doctorate.
- Minimum of honours 2A or equivalent.
When can I apply?
- This scholarship is offered annually. If you are successful in your application, QUT would expect you to commence your research degree early in the following year.
- You need to apply via the standard admission forms for domestic and international students (PDF, 405KB), noting on the form that you wish to be considered for this scholarship.

- Delivering opportunities for the sugarcane industry in cogeneration, energy, biomass utilisation and product diversification.
- Sugar refining.
- Sugar chemistry.
- Mitigating risks of climate change, and facilitating adaptation to climate change and variability.
- Delivering opportunities for the sugarcane industry in energy, biomass utilisation and product diversification.
- Improving the economic and environmental sustainability by reducing production costs and improving the utilisation of capital and other resources for sugarcane milling, sugar refining, sugar and sugarcane handling, and technologies adjunct to sugarcane processing.
- Increasing uptake of improved technologies and improving decision-making by industry enterprises.
