Project status: In progress

The research highlighted the essential contribution of non-technical factors in achieving the outcomes desired by world class engineering asset management (EAM).

The study investigated the impact of three critical non-technical areas; Engineering cultures; Data quality; and Knowledge transfer between engineering groups, on engineering asset outcomes. A consistent theme throughout the findings was the extent to which engineering asset workforces are co-ordinated has a significant effect on the performance of engineering assets, irrespective of technological maturity or sophistication.

While strategy was identified to be the most significant lever of both engineering culture and asset data quality, the reciprocal effects of both culture and data quality were also identified. Similarly the type of data, and the extent to which it is utilized in an organization was seen to have a potentially significant effect on the strategy of an organisation.
