Overview
Project status: In progress
The Russian Wheat Aphid (RWA) has spread from its native range in Eurasia over the past 40 years to invade all major cereal-growing regions of the world except Australia.
Genetic markers now available for this species provide an exciting opportunity to gain an understanding of the functional basis of invasiveness and virulence. Using these tools, this project will generate a pathway map of RWA invasions worldwide and will identify any genetic signature for invasiveness. This information will be used to develop a pre-emptive biosecurity strategy for RWA in Australia.
