Overview
-
Development of lead-free solder: Since the use of lead-based solder has been banned in Europe and other countries, there is a need to develop an alternative. This research is investigating the complex crystal structures that occur at key points in the phase diagram of a new lead-free solder.
-
The study of teeth as a structural material: This research into the micro- and nano-structure of teeth in mammals and fish has provided a better understanding of how the structures are made. This knowledge may be used to help in designing new engineering materials and also may be of assistance in designing treatments for repair of bones and teeth.
-
Ultrasound characterisation of fluid-perfused and gas-perfused complex porous media.
-
Solar Thermal Energy: Australia has large areas of desert which is an abundant solar resource, the challenge is in harnessing and storing this energy. This research is focussed on finding suitable materials for storage of solar thermal energy and in developing materials which can withstand the high temperature and corrosive environment.
