Orthopaedic research group

Overview

The purpose of the Orthopaedics research group is to provide a focus to develop clinical and basic research in orthopaedic practice.

Our key objectives are to research the causes and treatment of arthritis, fractures, osteoporosis and other orthopaedic conditions and to develop improved biomaterials and surgical techniques for treatment of patients with painful orthopaedic diseases.

The group has four projects which involve seven PhD students and six masters students.

Projects

The orthopaedic research group has a number of projects in the areas of:
  • developing improved bone substitutes
  • improving outcomes in patients with hip fractures
  • advancing surgical techniques with computer-assisted surgery
  • investigating causes of osteoarthritis
