What is Operations Research?

Operations Research (OR) is a professional discipline, also know as Operations Research and Management Science (OR/MS). The aim of OR is to gain an understanding of complex situations, and thereby suggest ways to predict system behaviour and improve system performance.

OR looks at an organisation's operations and uses quantitative, computer or other analytical approaches to find better ways to operate. An objective of OR is to provide managers of the organisations with a scientific basis for solving problems.
