Overview

Project status: In progress

The project is investigating ways to make devices more intuitive for older people to use. With the rapid rate of technological change over the past few decades the design of many every-day devices has changed dramatically - particularly in terms of the ways in which we have to interact with them to make them work.

Over the past 7 years we have developed a model of intuition based on the proposition that things are intuitive to use if they are consistent with our prior experiences (memory) of how thing work. We are using this model to develop new interfaces for devices including house-hold appliances (e.g. microwave ovens) and a range of medical devices used by older people in the home (e.g. blood pressure monitors).
