Overview
Reducing the level of negative externalities associated with production is increasingly becoming a key focus of government policy. Negative externalities are the side-effects of production that are unpriced (and hence do not affect the producers’ production decisions) but impose costs on broader society. With this in mind, the group will develop specific projects in relation to, but not limited to:
- measurement of environmental performance
- balancing environmental performance with other societal objectives
- measuring impact of information provision on public attitudes in relation to use of natural resources
- development of policy frameworks for correcting externalities and improving environmental performance.
The group will undertake this work with CSIRO social scientists and other researchers from Australia and overseas.
