Project status: In progress

Creative Industries | China | East Asia (CICEA) is a group dedicated to research on creative industries in East Asia (including Asia-Pacific). The Creative Industries China East Asia group is comprised of experts in the field of East Asian creative industries as well as current PhD and Masters Research Higher Degree students.

Our home base is the Creative Industries Faculty, Queensland University of Technology. We have institutional connections with two QUT-based research centres: the Institute for Creative Innovation (iCi) and the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation (CCI).

Details

The task we have set is to profile our work and that of our corresponding research centres so as to demonstrate our conceptual leadership in the area. One of the tasks of the group is to develop new and innovative research proposals. Usually these are funded by the Australian Research Council. However, there are a number of public and private institutions both in Australia and internationally with which we might fruitfully engage regarding creative industries projects in East Asia. We are looking for a new angel in 2010 (many thanks to CIF so far).

Our researchers have had extensive experience in the region and have expertise in understanding social and cultural contexts. We provide advice about business and investment opportunities in creative industries. We provide specialist consultancy upon request.

Publications and output

Our main outcomes to date have been the CICEA six pack training forums for research degree students with an Asian flavor. In contrast to the generic training packages offered by the Creative Industries Faculty and the QUT Research Students Centre these 90 minute dialogues have focused on specific issues identified by the group: critical tradition, qualitative research, data sources and thesis examination, presentations and writing skills.

The other two main outcomes are the CICEA bi-monthly newsletter which goes out to 100 plus subscribers and the CICEA wiki. The newsletter contains policy news plus work in progress papers by researchers and RHDs. It profiles the work we do here at QUT, CCi and iCi.
