Overview

Project status: In progress

This research project is a collaborative undertaking supported by the CRC for Rail Innovation. The project involves a QUT research team and stakeholders from several major Australian rail organizations: V/Line, TransAdelaide, RailCorp, Public Transport Authority of Western Australia, Gennessee & Wyoming Inc (Australia) and Metro Trains Melbourne.

The research project is considered innovative for the rail industry as it will draw together a range of resources that can then be available. Along with sharing of knowledge between rail organisations, it will provide an avenue for collection of data relating to e-learning (and subsequent ability to benchmark between organisations) and it will provide a mechanism to enhance e-learning offerings; none of which is currently available at industry-wide level.

The aim of this project is to:

  • provide a validated measure of abilities and attitudes relating to e-learning to enable decision making about e-learning offerings

  • provide a detailed analysis of current e-learning technology and usage best practice in rail and comparative systems outside the industry in order to inform decision making and establish benchmarks.

  • develop specifications for a shared e-learning resource (portal) for collaborative use of learning objects between rail organisations and  provide resources for the e-learning portal that give clear models of e-learning, and enable the sharing of knowledge within the industry in relation to e-learning.

  • pilot an e-learning object across at least two organisations and evaluate the outcomes.
