Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

Business Process Management (BPM) and Service Science, Management, and Engineering (SSME), have both gained sustained momentum as emerging research fields in Business and IT areas. How similar and/or different are they really? What can each discipline learn from one another? And how have the two areas been applied together in the past? These critical questions are aimed to be addressed in this study.

This project will derive at a synthesised analysis of the interaction of Services and Processes, using past literature as secondary data. There will be milestones set up for you to meet during the project - negotiated with you and with your supervisor(s). The ultimate outcome is a co-authored white paper on your findings and a presentation to the BPM community that summarises your project. It involves researching on the most recent trends in Business Process Management and Service Science, Management, and Engineering. Business Process Management is recognised as a major area of Business and IT research. Service Science, Management, and Engineering is promoted by some of the major technology companies, such as IBM, Accenture, EDS and HP. You will be conducting this project within an internationally influential research group, with many opportunities for interaction with renowned academics and major companies.

Required Knowledge:

  • Business Process Management overview (Must have completed the BPM unit with at least a grade of 5)
  • Advanced information retrieval skills (Must have completed the QUT online Information retrieval skills tutorial.)
  • Ability to effective communicate in both written and verbal formats
