Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

Invasive organisms currently threaten agricultural and native systems at unprecedented levels. Understanding what makes a species invasive is a key component of invasion biology. Bactrocera tryoni is a native invasive fruit fly, having spread far from it native east-coast rainforests since European settlement. B. neohumeralis, a sibling species of B. tryoni, has never been so invasive. You will investigate specific autecological attributes of the two species, including movement, larval host range and habitat preferences, to determine differences between them which may lead to invasiveness. Your results will support national efforts in better preparing against exotic invasive species.
