Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

An efficient and effective Web services discovery mechanism is important in many computing paradigms such as Pervasive Computing, Service-Oriented Computing, and Cloud Computing in which Web services form the building blocks. This project aims to investigate techniques for discovery of Web services based on service descriptions via semantic and parametric searching. We will design algorithms, develop a working system, run the system over the data set provided, and evaluate the performance of the system using a pre-processed data set consisting of 2500 web services described by WSDL. We will eventually publish our results in a conference.

Tasks

  • Literature Review
  • Algorithm Design
  • Software Coding and Testing
  • Experiment with the system and data collection
  • Evaluation
  • Write-up

This project would lead into Masters/PhD where the focus would be improving the effectiveness by including more criteria such as service composition, quality of service, trust management etc into searching.
