Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

When an organism's immune system responds to a non-self threat, there is a time-delay separating detection and response. This project involves study of existing mathematical models of the immune response, most of which are ODE based, as well as extension of these models to include time-delay terms based on experimentally derived biological understanding of the immune response. Mathematical topics involved: model development, ordinary differential equations, dynamical systems, analysis of ODEs, numerical solution of ODEs, delay differential equations. No prior knowledge of biology is required to complete this project.
