Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) also known as hydrotalcites, are known as anionic clays. The LDHs carry a positive surface charge which is counterbalanced through the intercalation of anions between the LDH layers 1-3. These LDH materials can be readily synthesised in the laboratory. The LDHs can be can then be used to remove toxic anions from aqueous media. The objective of this research is to apply modified LDHs for the removal of selected anions from drinking water.
