Overview
Topic status: In progress
This project will incoperate a wide variety of geoscience based coral reef research. It will aquire knowledge on the biology, microstructure and diagenesis of both live and fossil corals as well as other carbonate materials. It will involve both lab and field work and use techniques such as scanning electron microscopy and microCT.
Research activities
The research activities include:
- field surveys and sample collection of fossil assemblage on the dead reef flat
- cleaning and cataloguing specimens
- processing collected coral skeletons.
Expected outcomes
The expected outcomes are:
- an introduction to corals reef systems and carbonate sedimentology
- a field and lab experience.
