Overview
Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.
From time to time, research advances into areas never explored before. Topics of current interest include: (a) How do insect movements off-farm contribute to population regeneration on-farm where they affect integrity of agricultural products? and (b) How do horse-riding and other activities in national parks impact on the ecosystem? Designing experiments or studies to help support such pioneering research can be particularly challenging, since little quantitative information is available, for example on variance components, and what constitutes a significant difference. Often expert knowledge is the best source of such information. This project will explore statistical approaches to design that acknowledge these uncertainties, including different ways of specifying hypotheses within the classical paradigm, and Bayesian approaches with informative priors to capture expert knowledge.
