Overview
Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.
The use of social media is pervasive in modern society, and individuals are being driven by a need to “stay connected”. However, organisational responses to the use of social media in the workplace have varied greatly; including those that have forbidden its use during working hours and installed firewalls to deny access, to those who begrudgingly acknowledge its existence and require that its use is limited, to those that actively encourage their employees to use social media. The argument by those embracing the use of social media is that connectedness promotes links beyond the workgroup that encourages information sharing and knowledge exchange, often resulting in innovation. The student will be encouraged to investigate how the use of social media can facilitate learning and the creation and/or sharing of knowledge within and outside of the workplace.- Study level
