Overview

Topic status: We're looking for students to study this topic.

A sensitive technique for monitoring free radical processes in cells involves radical trapping or redox processes by profluorescent nitroxides. In order to identify which part of a cell the nitroxide antioxidants are localised to (and gain further insight into the mode of action of the nitroxide antioxidants), this project intends to explore the use of water-soluble resorcinarenes as drug delivery systems to transport profluorescent nitroxides of lower water-solubility into cells for fluorescence imaging. This project will provide students with synthetic skills in organic chemistry and instrumental experience associated with compound characterisation.
